Technology & Products

ICON GENETICS is a provider of new plant engineering technologies which address precision, speed, expression control and safety of transgene management in plants. We develop platforms and product prototypes for pharmaceutical, animal health and chemical biotech markets. ICON's Intellectual Property portfolio provides broad freedom-to-operate for all major expression systems, including nuclear transformation, plastid transformation, and transient expression based on pro-viral vectors. ICON's products consist of technology suites with emphasis on transient expression and designer glycosylation, and a pipeline of biopharmaceuticals in development.

Transgene Operating Systems™ (TOS™), our suites of technologies, include:

TOS™suite for nuclear transformation of plants is based on translational (promoterless), translation-fusion, polycistronic vectors and vectors that utilize vector assembly in planta or RNA/protein trans-splicing. The advantages: safety, speed, precision, expression control, freedom-to-operate.

TOS™ suite for plastid transformation allows construction of transplastomic hosts for high-yield production of specialty proteins in chloroplasts. We provide the platform with a full freedom-to-operate.

TOS™ suite for pro-viral transfection (magnICON® system) of plants provides advantages of fast amplification processes in a plant, simple and inexpensive assembly of expression cassettes in planta, full control of the process, robustness of highly standardized protocols that allow to use inherently the same safe protocols for both laboratory-scale aswell as industrial processes.

Our magnICON® system is designed for rapid gene/vector assembly and optimization as well as for high yield/high throughput expression of genes in planta.

Our lexICON* system allows DNA 'bar-coding' of genetically modified plants. We propose a version of such a labeling as an universal coding standard for GM organisms to be released into the environment.

rubICON* is our hybrid seed production and trait control system. Apart from the herbicide resistance and insect resistance genes currently on the market, an efficient and universal hybridization system is probably the only agriculture product candidate with a ’blockbuster’ potential.
